Instant Pot Tomato Dal

This is a an easy n tasty dal recipe that suits well for rice. I had already posted
 South Indian Dal, mixed lentil curry, green gram curry in Instant Pot and no onion no garlic dal in Pressure Cooker. Check that too.

Cooking time : 15 mins

Serving: 3-4

Ingredients:

Split pigeon peas / Tuvar Dal - 1/2 cup (minus 1 tspn)
Tomato - 2 (sliced)
Green chilli - 3 (chopped)
Red chilli - 3 (chopped)
Ginger - 1 1/2 inch (chopped)
Garlic - 2 (big, chopped)
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Asafoetida - 1/4 tspn
Sesame oil - 1 tbsn
Curry leaves - few
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Salt to taste

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients. Wash and soak the Dal for half an hour.

2. Switch on the IP. Press the saute mode. Add oil, mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

3. Add ginger, garlic, red chillies and green chillies. Saute for few seconds.

4. Add tomato, salt and turmeric and saute for a minute.

5. Add tuvar dal. Add 1 cup of water. Add curry leaves and coriander leaves, asafoetida.


6. Press the manual mode for 12 mins in High Pressure HP in sealed position. Then do Natural Pressure Release NPR.

7. Open the lid. Smash well using a wooden spatula or a hand blender.

8. Yummy tomato dal is ready to serve.

Notes:

You can add onions if you need.
Tempering with ghee gives you a nice flavour.
