Mixed dal curry /No onion no garlic curry/Iymparuppu kadaisal

This recipe is a complete protein rich food with five varieties of dal. Also a no onion no garlic recipe that helps during fasting. Here is the list of dals used in this curry. Mix all the dals together and store it in an airtight container.
Tuvar dal - 1/2 cup
Masoor dal - 1/2 cup
Moong dal - 1/2 cup
Hara moong - 1/2 cup
Black uraddal - 1/2 cup (split)

Cooking time: 30 mins

Serving: 4

Ingredients:

Mixed dal - 1/3 cup
Tomato - 1 1/2( finely sliced)
Ginger - 1 1/2 inch
Green chilli - 2
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tspn
Cumin powder - 1/2 tspn
Coriander powder - 1 tspn
Garam masala - 1/4 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Red chilli - 2
Cloves - 2
Asafoetida - 1/4 tspn
Oil - 1 tspn
Ghee - 1 tspn
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Salt to taste

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients. Soak the dal for 2 hrs. Cook the dal in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles and keep aside.


2. Heat a pan. Add oil and ghee. Add mustard seeds, red chillies, cloves, cumin seeds and asafoetida.

3. Add tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy.

4. Add the crushed green chilli and ginger and saute for few seconds.

5. Add all the powders ( turmeric, coriander, cumin, red chilli, garam masala) and saute till the raw smell goes.

6. Add the cooked dal and salt with 1/2 cup of water. Cook for about 6-8 mins or until it becomes thick.


7. Garnish with coriander leaves. Mixed dal curry is ready to serve hot.

Notes:

This curry goes well with plain rice, jeera rice and rotis.
Take all the dals equally. 1/2 cup of each dal together yields about 500 gms. For a single time serving take 1 tbsn of each dal which gives 1/2 cup that serves 2-3 persons.
