Spinach Keerai Kootu (No Onion / No Garlic Recipe)

This kootu recipe is a tasty, comforting and a healthy recipe that goes well with plain hot rice and also as a side dish for vatha kuzhambhu or any tamarind based curry. NO ONION NO GARLIC MIXED LENTIL CURRY
NO ONION NO GARLIC SPINACH LENTIL CURRY

Cooking time: 20 mins

Serving: 3

Ingredients:

Spinach - 3 cups (chopped)
Yellow moongdal - 2 tbsn
Tomato - 1/2 (small size, sliced)
Sambar powder - 3/4 tspn (or chilli powder)
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Sugar - 1/4 tspn
Red chilli - 1
Asafoetida - 1/4 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
Coconut oil - 1 tspn
Salt to taste

To Grind:

Coconut - 1 tbsn (grated)
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tspn
Ginger - 1/2 inch
Peppercorns - 10

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients.

2. Grind the ingredients for it into a coarse mixture. Since the quantity is very less coarse mixture is fine.

3. Cook the moongdal in IP for manual 10 mins in High Pressure HP in sealed position. Then do Natural Pressure Release NPR. Keep it aside.



4. Switch on the IP. Press the saute mode. Add spinach, tomato, sambar powder, turmeric, sugar with 1/3 cup of water. Let it cook for 5 mins.


5. Add salt, cooked dal, grinded mixture and 1/4 cup of water. Mix well. Let it cook for 5 mins. Switch off.


6. Do the seasoning. Add coconut oil, mustard seeds, red chilli, asafoetida. Add this to the dal mixture.


7. Yummy spinach kootu is ready to serve with plain hot rice.

Notes:

You can cook the dal in IP and follow the rest in stove top too.
Adding coconut oil gives a nice flavour to the Kootu. So try not to add any other oil.
