Ingredients:
Mint leaves - 1 cup ( loosely packed )
Coriander leaves - 1 cup ( loosely packed )
Grated coconut - 1/4 cup
Shallots - 3
Garlic - 4 (small)
Red chilli - 3-4
Tuvar dal - 2 tbsn
Tamarind - a small piece like half gooseberry size
Asafoetida - 1/8 tspn
Sesame Oil - 3 tspn
Salt to taste
Method:
1. Heat a Kadaai. Add 1 tspn of oil. Once it gets heated up add shallots, galic. Saute till it becomes light brown. Add asafoetida, red chillies. Saute for few more seconds. Keep this aside.
2. In the same kadaai add 2 tspn of oil. Add tuvar dal. Saute till the dal becomes light brown. Add mint leaves. Saute for about 20 seconds. Add coriander leaves, coconut.
3. Switch off immediately. Coriander leaves gets sauted in the heat of Kadaai itself.
4. Cool down. Add the tamarind, salt.
5. Grind it by adding little water. The consistency can be little coarse or smooth. Both tastes good.
6. Tasty mint thuvayal is ready. It goes well with hot rice with a dollop of ghee.
