Instant Pot Chumma / Plain Biriyani ( Muslim style Biriyani )

My cravings for different style of biriyaanis have no ending. If you have no vegetables at home do not worry. This biriyani would definitely be your soulful food both for the mind and taste buds. I have already posted few vegetarian Biriyani and Non veg biriyaanis in my blog.... Check out that too...

Cooking time: 15 mins

Serving: 3-4

Ingredients:

Basmati rice - 2 cups (1 cup-200 ml)
Onion - 2 (medium, sliced)
Tomato - 2 (medium, sliced)
Green chilli - 8 (whole)
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsn
Curd - 1/4 cup
Red chilli powder - 3/4 tspn
Mint leaves - 1 handful (chopped)
Coriander leaves - 1 handful (chopped)
Bayleaf - 4
Cinnamon - 2 inch
Cloves - 10
Cardamom - 6
Staranise - 2
Oil - 2 tbsn
Ghee- 3 tbsn

Method:

1. Wash and soak the rice for 1/2 an hour.

2. Switch on the IP. Add oil, ghee, bayleaf, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, staranise.

3. Add onions, green chillies and saute well until it becomes brown.

4. Add tomato and saute till it becomes mushy.

5. Add Ginger garlic paste. Saute till the raw smell goes.

6. Add  mint leaves and coriander leaves. Saute for few seconds.

7. Add red chilli powder, salt.

8. Add curd. Saute well for about 2-3 mins until it becomes like a masala and oil oozes out.

9. Add 2 cups of water. Total water needed is 3 cups of water. For soaked basmati rice 1 : 1 1/2 cups of water. The masala has already 1 cup of water. So 2 cups enough.

10.  Once the water starts boiling, add the rice. Mix well.

11. Close the lid. Press the manual or Pressure cook mode for 5 mins in High Pressure HP in sealed position. Then do Natural Pressure Release NPR.

12. Open the lid.

13. Mix the rice gently.

14. Chumma Biriyani is ready to serve. You can serve it with onion raita or any gravy of your choice or simply a boiled egg.

Notes:

My chilli powder is very spicy. If you have medium spicy red chilli powder then you can add 1 tspn.
If you don't have sour curd add 2 tspn of lemon juice while adding rice.
Since I added good amount of whole garam masala , garam masala powder is not needed.
Prepare the biriyani 3 hours before serving. Tastes great when resting it for few hours.
