Instant pot Barnyard millet Rasam rice (kuthiraivaali Rasam saadham)

This is a very simple and easy recipe that can be prepared in few minutes especially if u feel tired or lazy to cook after your vacation or a busy schedule. I would like to call it as a BACHELOR'S SPECIAL since many working guys always say they miss their Mom's Rasam rice, so for them it would be definitely a helpful recipe. When I browsed this recipe many people tried with normal rice and some with millets by adding ingredients of their own way. Here I prepared with Barnyard millet with other few ingredients needed for Rasam in Instant Pot. It can be prepared in pressure cooker too. Cooking time: 12 mins

Serving: 2

Ingredients:

Roasted barnyard millet - 1/2 cup
Tuvar dal - 2 tbsn
Tomato - 1 1/2 if big size or 2 if small
Garlic - 5 cloves (crushed)
Tamarind extract - from a small gooseberry size
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Rasam powder - 2 tspn
Cumin pepper powder - 1 tspn (optional)
Water - 3 cups
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Salt to taste

For seasoning:

Oil - 1 tspn
Ghee - 2 tspn
Cumin seeds - 2 tspn
Red chillies - 3
Curry leaves - few
Asafoetida - 1/8 tspn

Method:

1. Wash and soak the dal together in a bowl for 1 hr.

2. Add the above mixture into the pot. Add tomatoes (mine was little hard so I added after giving it a pulse), garlic, turmeric, Rasam powder, cumin pepper powder, water (add the tamarind extract with water and measure it to 3 cups), salt. Mix well.


3. Close the lid. Press the manual or pressure cook mode for 12 mins in High Pressure HP in sealed position. Then do Natural Pressure Release NPR.

4. Open the lid.

5. Prepare for the seasoning. Add it to the cooker Rasam rice. Add coriander leaves.


6. Millet Rasam rice is ready to serve.

Notes:

You can prepare the same recipe with normal rice too....

PRESSURE COOKER METHOD:

Follow the same method as above and cook it for 4-5 whistles.
You can prepare with other millets like kodo, foxtail, little Millet,proso too....
