Tomato Pepper Idly (Thakkali Milagu Idly)

This is a super tasty and spicy idly recipe with a pepper dominant flavour. It's just a peppercorns and not any more chillies. I have already posted few IDLY varieties and also BATTER FOR SPONGY IDLYS. Check out that too....

Cooking time: 10 mins

Serving: 2

Ingredients:

Idly batter - 1 cup
Onion - 1/2 (sliced)
Tomato - 1 (big, sliced or 2 if small)
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tspn
Uraddal - 1 tspn
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Curry leaves - few
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Sesame oil - 2 tspn
Salt to taste

To Grind:

Ginger - 1 inch
Cumin seeds - 3/4 tspn
Fennel seeds - 3/4 tspn
Peppercorns - 1 tspn

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients.

2. Grind the ingredients for it into a coarse mixture without adding water and keep it aside.

3. Cook the idlys in the IP for manual 3 mins in vent position. once the steam starts coming out count the minutes in your external timer.

4. Heat a pan. Add oil, mustard seeds, uraddal.

5. Add onions, curry leaves. Saute for few seconds. Don't saute too much. The crunchiness should remain.

6. Add the grinded mixture. Saute for 10 seconds.

7. Add tomato, turmeric, salt and saute till it becomes mushy.

8. Add 2 tbsn of water. Let it cook for a minute.

9. When it comes like a gravy add the idlys. Mix well until it gets coated with all the masalas and heated up.

10. Add coriander leaves. Switch off.

11. Yummy tomato pepper idly is ready to serve without any side dish.

Notes:

As I had only mini plates to fit in my IP I used that. You can do the recipe with normal idlys and chop them to chunks.
