Cooking in IP is always a pleasure not only because of it's mess free cooking but also no need of babysitting. Horsegram is a good choice for people who are in dieting. But there should be a variety in that too, right? So I tried with few masalas that adds up a new menu in your lunch box also. This is a ecipe that can be cooked easily if you have cooked horsegram already and also tasty to eat.
Horsegram - 1/4 cup
Peas - 1/2 cup
Onion - 1 (small , chopped)
Tomato - 1 (small, sliced)
Green chilli - 2 (chopped)
Ginger garlic paste - 2 tspn
Mint leaves - 15
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Red chilli powder - 2 tspn
Cinnamon - 1 inch
Cloves - 3
Fennel seeds - 1 1/2 tspn
Shahi jeera - 1/2 tspn
Oil - 4 tspn
Salt to taste
2. Wash and soak the horsegram for 1 -2 hours. Switch on the IP. Pour 1 1/2 cup of water in to the pot. Place the trivet. Keep the vessel (containing soaked horsegram with 1 cup of water) on the trivet. Press the bean / chili mode that will show 30 mins in sealed position in Low Pressure (LP). Then do NPR.
3. Open the lid. Take out the vessel. Separate the stock and horsegram. Reserve the water.
4. Press the saute mode. Add oil, cinnamon, cloves, fennel seeds, shahi jeera.
5. Add onions and saute till it becomes light golden brown.
6. Add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes.
7. Add tomato, green chillies and saute till it becomes mushy.
8. Add turmeric, red cilli powder. Saute well.
9. Add mint leaves.
10. Add cooked horsegram. Saute for few seconds. There should not be any water content.
11. Add the peas.
12. Add the rice and 2 1/2 cups of water (include the horsegram stock in this )
13. Close the lid. Press the cancel button. Again press the rice mode (12 mins) in sealed position in Low Pressure (LP). Then do Natural Pressure Release (NPR).
14. Open the lid and garnish with coriander leaves. Enjoy the healthy horsegram masala rice with chips or raita.
I have added frozen peas. If you use dried and soaked one add while adding tomato. You can add other veggies of your choice.
One hour cooking time I mentioned is the time included for cooking horsegram. Once u cooked that u can do easily the other steps.
