Popcorn (pressure cooker method)


Popcorn is one of the healthiest evening snacks.  Nowadays ready-made popcorn that can be made in microwave is available, but this method of cooking with our own homemade spices looks very healthy. This kind of corn kernels is available in all supermarkets.  Now here is the recipe

Cooking time:  Less than 5 mins

Ingredients:

  1. Corn kernels - 1 Cup
  2. Coconut oil - 1/4 Cup
  3. Chili powder - 1/2 tspn
  4. Pepper powder - 1/2 tspn
  5. Salt - 1 1/2 tspn
  6. Turmeric - 1/4 tspn

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients


2. Keep a pressure pan or cooker (i have used senior pressure pan here). Add oil

3. Add salt, turmeric, pepper, chili powder. Fry for few seconds

4. Add corn kernels.  Saute well for about a minute util it starts popping

5. Close the cooker with lid. Don't put the whistle.  Keep it for 1 minute in high flame.  You will hear the popping sound nicely 

6. After a minute, the popping sound stops which indicate the popcorn is done 

7. Switch off and leave it for a few seconds.

8. Open the lid carefully as the popcorn is filled over the cooker

9. Keep for 5 minutes so that it comes to room temperature.  Enjoy hot hot popcorn.  Transfer it to airtight container and have it daily evening 😉

Notes:

You can use either olive oil or butter or half-and-half olive & butter instead of coconut oil.
Gasket for lid is a must.
