Nethili thokku / Anchovy fish masala

Anchovies are always tasty when it is prepared as fry and also gravy. This recipe will helps you when u have no vegetables in your refrigerator.

Serving: 2-3

Ingredients:

Anchovy fish - 250 gms
Onion - 1 (medium size, finely chopped)
Tomato - 1 (big, finely sliced)
Green chilli - 2 (finely chopped)
Ginger - 1 inch (finely chopped)
Garlic - 4 cloves (finely chopped)
Sambar powder - 3 tbsn or (coriander powder - 4 tspn, redchilli powder - 3 tspn)
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tspn
Uraddal - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - few
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Sesame oil - 3 tbsn
Salt to taste

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients. 

2. Heat a kadaai. Add oil, mustard seeds and uraddal.

3. Add onions, green chillies, ginger, garlic, curry leaves and saute till the onion becomes light golden brown.

4. Add tomatoes and saute till it becomes mushy.

5. Add turmeric, sambar powder, salt and saute till it becomes a thick masala.

6. Add anchovies. Mix gently so that it will not break. Add 1/4 cup water and cook for 10 mins until it comes to a thokku / masala consistency.



7. Add coriander leaves, curry leaves. Yummy Nethili thokku is ready to serve.

Notes:

Wash the anchovies with lemon juice and turmeric.
You can have this thokku for rice, side dish for dal rice, Sambar, rasam.
