Ulundhan kanji (urad dal porridge)

This is a sweet version porridge that can be taken from 1 year baby to old age people. Because the key ingredient of this porridge is the palm jaggery (karuppatti) which is a natural sweetener and an energy food, has a good amount of minerals, body cleanser and rich in calcium and iron that treats anaemia. Girls who attains the puberty should definitely have this porridge to tackle from menstrual cramps and especially ladies who have the backpain problems during menstruation.

Ingredients:

Uraddal - 2 tbsn
Palm jaggery (karuppatti) - 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder - 1/4 tspn

Method:

1. Grab all the ingredients.Soak the uraddal for 1 hour.


2. Grind the uraddal with 1/2 cup of water into a fine paste. Add the paste to a pan with 1 1/2 cups of water.


3. Now we  have to prepare a syrup(paagu). Add the palm jaggery in another pan with water until it's immersed. Boil till it dissolves well.


4. Filer the syrup into the uraddal paste with a strainer.

5. Cook well until the raw smell of uraddal goes for about 10 mins. (Cooking 10 mins is a must, otherwise u will get bitter taste of uraddal). First you may feel it thick. But after 10 mins the consistency will be perfect.

6. Now you will get the porridge consistency. Add the cardamom powder and switch off.

7. Enjoy the hot and super healthy porridge.

Notes:

You can add grated coconut to the porridge while adding cardamom powder.
If you like to enhance the sweet add a pinch of salt.
Add a pinch of dry ginger powder if you like the taste of it.
If you don't have palm jaggery,you can use normal jaggery too.But don't try with sugar.
