Horsegram is a crop grown in wide range of adverse climatic conditions. It has a lots of health benefits like treating common cold and fever, digestion, weight loss, diabetes, asthma, menstrual problems, constipation, kidney stones, ulcers and piles.
Onion - 2 tbsn (chopped)
Tomato - 1/2 ( chopped)
Garlic - 1( big cloves, chopped)
Red chilli - 3
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Coriander seeds - 1 tspn
Tamarind - a small pinch
Turmeric - 1/4 tspn
Sesame oil - 2tspn
Curry leaves - few
Salt to taste
2. Wash the horsegram twice and cook in a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water and turmeric for 10 whistles.
3. Once the pressure is released filter the water from the horsegram and keep it aside for preparing Horsegram rasam.
4. Heat a pan. Add oil. Add cumin seeds and coriander seeds.
5. Once it splutters add onions, red chillies, garlic, curry leaves and saute for a minute.
6. Add tomato and saute for a minute.
7. Now add this sauted mixture to the horsegram. Add tamarind and salt.
8. Grind the above mixture in a mixer jar coarsely.
9. Enjoy the thuvayal with a dollop of ghee or sesame oil in hot rice with few vathal or vadaams.
